How do I change a client's login email address?

How do I change a client's login email address?

You change a client's login email from the client's Edit Client pop-up. Next to Login, click Change, type the new address and click Change login. The new address also becomes the client's primary email, and the old login stops working right away.

Who can change a client's login

Your accounting firm changes a client's login from the Client List. A client cannot change their own login.

How to change the login email

  1. Go to Client Actions > Client List and find the client.
  2. On the far right of the client's row, click Edit. The Edit Client pop-up opens.
  3. Next to Login, click Change. The pop-up switches to Change login email.
  4. The form shows the Current login. In New login email, type the new address.
  5. Click Change login. To leave without changing anything, click Back.

Rules for the new login

  • It must be a single email address, with no spaces, & or +.
  • It can be at most 60 characters long.
  • It can't be an address another LedgerSync account already uses.

What happens after the change

  • The client gets your firm's invitation email at the new address only. If your firm has its own invitation template, that template is used. The client uses this invitation to sign in, because the old password no longer works.
  • The old login address gets an email titled "Your LedgerSync login was changed". It names your firm and the client, says that address no longer signs in to the account, and asks the reader to contact your firm if they did not expect the change. This email is sent every time a client's login is changed.
  • The old address is not kept as an additional email on the client.
  • The client's bank connections stay on the client's account.

Can I undo a login change?

There is no undo. If you entered the wrong address, change the login again.
