How do Task Center notifications work?

How do Task Center notifications work?

While you have LedgerSync open in your browser, the Task Center notifies you when something happens on a task you are part of: a task is sent to you, its status changes, it is completed or returned, or someone posts or edits a message. New notifications show as a short pop-up and are added to the notifications list in the Task Center.

When your notifications list has any entries, the Task Center link in the top menu shows a dot.

Where to find your notifications

  1. Open the Task Center.
  2. Click the bell next to the Task Center title.
  3. The Notifications list opens. If you have none, it shows No notifications.

Click an entry to open its task. The entry is then removed from the list. For a message notification, the task opens on its conversation. To empty the whole list, click Clear.

The list only collects notifications that arrive while LedgerSync is open in your browser. Anything that happens while you are signed out is not added later, so check your task list when you sign back in.

What the notifications say

Each entry is titled with the task, for example Task #, New message on task # or Message edited on task #, followed by the task number. The text below the title is one of the following:

  • (name) assigned a task
  • Task has been completed (or Help Request has been resolved)
  • Task has been returned for updates
  • Status changed to Sent, Clarification, Clarified or Checking
  • A new message was received
  • A task message was updated

Pop-up notifications

Pop-ups hide after 5 seconds. Click one to open its task.

  • New tasks: the pop-up shows the task type and number with the task description, or "New task has been assigned".
  • Status changes: the pop-up shows the task type and number with the status text.
  • Messages: the pop-up shows who wrote the message and its text, or "Sent an attachment". You don't get a pop-up for your own messages. If that task's conversation is already open, there is no pop-up and no entry is kept, because the message appears in the conversation as it arrives.

Who gets notified

  • Task sent: the assignee is notified. This includes each new copy of a recurring task.
  • Assignee clicks Done: the task's author is notified that the task is now in Checking.
  • Return to Assignee: the assignee is notified.
  • Mark Complete: the author and the assignee are notified, except the person who completed it.
  • New message: the people chosen as recipients are notified. If no recipients were chosen, the task's author and assignee are notified. The sender is never notified. If the message changes the task's status, the same people are also notified about the status change.
  • Edited message: the same people who were notified about the original message are notified again.
