Controlling Who Can Manage Global Rules
LedgerSync lets you control which team roles are allowed to create, edit, and reorder your firm's Global Rules. This is useful if you want certain staff, such as supervisors, to manage rule logic while other staff members stay limited to day-to-day transaction work.
Where to Find Permissions
- Click your account name dropdown in the top right corner.
- Select Permissions.

Understanding the Permissions Table
The Permissions page lists each controllable action along with the roles allowed to perform it: Employee, Firm, and Client.
Two permissions relate to Global Rules:
- Manage Global Rules – Controls who can create, edit, retire, and reorder your firm's Global Rules.
- Bulk AI Rule Update – Controls who can run the Bulk AI Rule generator across unmatched transactions.

How to Restrict Global Rule Access to Specific Staff
Permissions apply per role, not per individual user. To separate supervisors from general staff, assign roles rather than trying to restrict a specific person directly:
- Move staff who should not manage Global Rules into the Employee role.
- On the Permissions page, uncheck Employee for the Manage Global Rules permission.
- Keep supervisors on a role that retains the permission.
Note: Firm Administrators always have full access to Global Rules and cannot be restricted from this permission. If you need a supervisor tier that's separate from both Firm Administrator and general staff, keep supervisors on the Employee role with the Employee checkbox enabled for Manage Global Rules, and move general staff to a role without that access.
Tip: Employees only see the clients explicitly assigned to them, while Firm Administrators automatically see every client. Confirm client assignments are set up correctly before moving staff between roles.
