Rules Engine — Default Rules & Categories (Pre-Built Starter Set)

Notes
Overview
Instead of building every common rule from scratch, LedgerSync offers an opt-in set of Default Global Rules and Default Categories — a pre-built starter library covering the common-sense categorizations most firms need (common vendors, bank fees, payroll providers, and so on).

How Default Rules & Categories Work

  • Defaults are opt-in — you choose to enable them; they are never forced onto your account
  • When enabled, the default Global Rules and Categories appear alongside any rules you’ve created yourself
  • Your edits are preserved: if you modify a default rule or category, your edited version becomes your own and is never overwritten by future updates to the defaults
  • Accepting a default rule is recorded in the Rules Engine audit log (who accepted it and when), for both QuickBooks and Zoho Books firms

Why Use Defaults?

Most firms end up building the same 30–50 rules: Amazon → Supplies, bank fee descriptions → Bank Charges, payroll provider names → Payroll Expenses, and so on. Starting from the default set means your first client is productive on day one — you refine from a working base instead of building from zero.

How to Enable Default Rules

  1. Go to the Rules Engine / Global Rules area
  2. Look for the Default Rules / Default Categories option
  3. Review the default set and accept the ones you want (or all)
  4. Map the default Global Categories to each client’s chart of accounts as usual

InfoDefaults are a starting point, not a straitjacket — edit, disable, or delete any default that doesn’t fit your practice. Anything you change is yours from that point on.
