Purpose: This guide walks you through adding a bank connection for a client in LedgerSync. To add a connection using this method, you will need the client's login credentials and access to their MFA (multi-factor authentication).
If you do not have the credentials or access to the MFA and prefer to invite the client to add the bank connection themself, please refer to the article: How to Invite Clients to Add or Reconnect a Bank (Communication Center)
Important for Chase: Chase may not provide statements through Third Party Access. If statements don't arrive, connect with the account owner's login.
Adding a Bank Connection
- Sign in to the LedgerSync application.
- Navigate to the client you'd like to add the bank connection for. Clients are listed in the left-hand panel.
- Click the blue Add Bank Connection button.

- In the search box, enter the bank you wish to add. You can also click one of the bank logos under the search box.

- Once it populates, select the name of the bank you want to add. (In this example Chase is being used.)

- Under What information would you like to aggregate?, choose the data you want to pull: Transactions, Statements, and/or Checks. You can select one, a combination, or all. (In this example we select all.)
Note: Statements and transactions are typically retrieved through MX and MasterCard connections, while check images are retrieved through LedgerSync's own Statements & Checks connection (shown as Premium Bank Connections under Pick Manually).

- Click Submit.

- LedgerSync picks the connection for you and lists what it is going to add. Each connection has green tags showing what that connection supports, and an icon on the right showing the connection type. If you need statements and transactions as well as check images, you may see two connections: one for statements and transactions, and one for check images. In this example, Chase gets Chase Bank for transactions and statements, and Chase Bank (Images) for checks.
Note: You do not choose between MX and MasterCard in this window. If you want to choose the connection type yourself, use Pick Manually (see below).

- Click Start to begin connecting. LedgerSync automatically starts with the first connection and walks you through it. Once you finish it (or close it), it takes you to the next connection automatically. If only one connection is needed, LedgerSync may start it right away.

- For an MX or MasterCard connection, it will then direct you to the bank's login, prompting for the credentials. Enter the client's credentials and follow that bank's steps (including any MFA prompts) to connect the account. In this example, MX shows Go to log in, which sends you to Chase to log in.

- For a check images connection (such as Chase Bank (Images)), LedgerSync asks for the bank login itself. When the bank needs it, a Please answer the question pop-up asks for the client's username and password (some banks ask for more, such as a company ID). The same pop-up is used for any security questions or codes the bank asks for.
Adding a Bank Connection Manually
You can also pick the connection type yourself.
- Sign in to the LedgerSync application.
- Navigate to the client you'd like to add the bank connection for. Clients are listed in the left-hand panel.
- Click Add Bank Connection.

- Select the Pick Manually option in the top-right corner.

- Select MX, Statements & Transactions (Using Mastercard API), or Premium Bank Connections (check and deposit images, plus some statements that MX and MasterCard don't support), depending on the data you're looking for. (In this example MX was chosen.)

- For MX or Premium Bank Connections, search for the bank name in the search box. For MasterCard, the MasterCard window opens right away and you search for the bank there.

- Click the bank you want to add.

- Move to the bank login:
- MasterCard: follow the steps in the MasterCard window to reach the bank login.
- MX: click the bank name and it will ask you to go to log in (for Chase, click Go to log in).
- Premium Bank Connections: click the bank name; a confirmation box appears stating "This will create [connection name] connection. Proceed?" Click Yes to add the connection. LedgerSync then says "Connection has been added, but it may require some additional information to be provided. Ledgersync will popup a question if needed." Enter the client's login in the Please answer the question pop-up when it appears.

- Follow the bank's prompts to connect, including any MFA prompts.
