What Bank Connection to Choose - Ex/ Mastercard API, Ledgersync Premium, MX

Notes
NotesPurpose
LedgerSync offers multiple bank connection options to ensure you can access the financial data you need. Choosing the correct connection type helps ensure reliable access to:

  • Bank statements
  • Transactions
  • Check images

This article explains when to use Mastercard API, LedgerSync Premium, MX, or Mercury connections.

Where to Find Bank Connection Options

To view and select available bank connection options in LedgerSync:

  1. Log into the LedgerSync application
  2. Select the client you want to add a bank connection for
  3. In the top-right corner, click Add Bank Connection
  4. From there, you can choose the appropriate bank connection type (Mastercard API, LedgerSync Premium, MX, or Mercury) based on the data you need aggregated into the LedgerSync application
  5. In the search box, type the name of the bank you want to connect and select it from the results.

Option 1.   Mastercard API Connection

The Mastercard API connection allows you to retrieve a client’s bank statements and transactions, provided the bank is supported through Mastercard’s API aggregation

Mastercard supports two key services:

  • TA (Transaction Aggregation)
  • SA (Statement Aggregation)

You can verify whether a bank supports these statements or transaction aggregation by visiting Mastercard Supported Institutions: https://developer.mastercard.com/open-finance-us/documentation/financial-institution/supported-institutions/ searching for the bank in the search box and checking for a green checkmark under:

  • Transactions (TA)
  • Statements (SA)

If a green checkmark is present, that data type can be aggregated into LedgerSync.
If a checkmark is missing, the bank does not allow that data to be pulled.

Examples:

Chase Bank: Supports both statements and transactions

  • Rolling Hills Bank and Trust: Supports transactions only as no green checkmark reflects under (SA) Statements

If a bank supports only one service (TA or SA), the Mastercard API connection can still be used to retrieve the supported data. Ex/ Rolling Hills Bank and Trust will still support transactions as a green checkmark shows under (TA) Transactions

Option 2.   Premium Bank Connections

Premium Bank Connections are recommended for:
  1. Retrieving check images
  2. Accessing supplementary statements that may not be supported by Mastercard or MX connections

These connections provide additional data coverage where standard API connections may have limitations. Users can search for the bank needed to access check images.

Recommendation: Use Premium connections primarily for check images or supplementary statements where the Mastercard API Connection does not support statement aggregation for the required bank.

InfoAlert

Note: When using a Premium Bank Connection, it is recommended to use the LedgerSync Desktop Application (LSDA) to ensure a more stable and secure connection.

Additional details on how to download and install the LedgerSync Desktop Application can be found in the Knowledge Base article:

Option 3.    MX Connection
Alert    ⚠ Please Note: The MX Connection is currently in Beta and Not Fully Implemented for Statement Support.

The MX connection can be used as an alternative to Mastercard for:

  • Pulling transactions from supported banks

At this time:

  • Statement support is not yet available
  • Additional functionality is actively being developed
We plan to expand MX statement support in the future — please stay tuned for updates

Option 4.  Mercury

LedgerSync has a direct API connection with Mercury Bank, making it one of the most stable and reliable connections available.

With Mercury:

  • Statements
  • Balances
  • Transactions

all flow directly and instantly into LedgerSync with minimal interruptions.

Because of this direct integration:

  • There are virtually no connection breakages
  • Data is published smoothly and consistently
